A Lenten presentation took the place of the usual monthly CWL meeting. Deacon Michael Soentgerath was our speaker. His talk “Justice shall Flourish — The Spirituality of Women in the Work of Justice.” To start, he outlined the difference between doing Charity and Social Justice. Charity — an immediate action to a social need. Social Justice — addressing the root cause of a social need. Using the example of two present day women — Dorothy Day (the American social activist) and Mother Theresa of Calcutta, both of whom felt moved by compassion to tackle almost insurmountable needs of the poor and in so doing, redefined social justice of their time. He commended the women of the CWL who hold and work on the issues of social justice.

Strategic Planning

The CWL National Council has asked all CWL Parish Councils to study the goals and objectives that uphold our organization — the Core Guiding Principles, namely —1. Core Purpose, 2. Core Values of Faith, Service & Social Justice, 3. Mission Statement and 4. Envisioned Future. This goal is to be achieved within 3 — 5 years. St. Cecilia’s Parish CWL has convened a Task Force of 5 members, who will study the 1st Goal and make recommendations. Their findings will be presented to the April 2020 General CWL meeting for discussion and decision-making.
