Nov. 24/2002 - Christ the King

Dear Friends

Last Sunday we celebrated our Patronal Feast of St. Cecilia. Being the Patron Saint of Music as well we celebrated this role of hers with a devotional concert. Our choirs, musical families, clergy and soloists participated and we heard music beginning with Gregorian Chant to the "Awesome God" of our modern Youth expression. I would like to thank George Deane who organized the concert and performed too not only for this year but also for the previous years. Thanks again George it was truly what church music is supposed to be: Praise of God and edification of the people. Those who came were not disappointed and we hope that there are more next year.

Today we celebrate on the last Sunday of the Church year the Solemnity of Christ the King. The Gospel shows us Christ as the final judge of all humanity and his principle of justice is simple: "What you did to the least of my brothers and sisters you did to me!"

As we wrap up our year let us remember to wrap up something for our Christmas Hampers. Let us wrap up our ABA collection. Let us support our parish and Diocese with a generous heart and hand.

When we begin with Advent next week let us all be candles who shine brightly in the night of despair and suffering. Only through our following the Gospel invitation we will be people on our pilgrimage to the Lord till he comes.

With God’s choicest blessing,

Fr. Henry

Ezra the Reader says:

God's word has its own power and can do exactly what God wishes His word to do. But God has chosen to work through human beings to play his song of love to the people.

He used Moses, who seemingly had a stuttering problem. He used Jeremiah, who was very reluctant to follow Him. He called Peter, who, in his early days, spoke without thinking. He used Paul, who spoke exactly what he thought. Now, He seeks to use each one of you as a reader and chooses you to speak to God's people for Him. Your ministry is nothing less.

Please read again the points in the folder on the table in the foyer. A Workbook for Lectors is in the Library for help in the preparation.
