June 15, 2003 – Trinity Sunday

Dear Friends:

"O, Most Holy Trinity, undivided Unity, Holy God Mighty God, God immortal, be adored!" these words will be sung by millions of Christians throughout the world this Sunday. An accolade of Praise and honour to the triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! As Christians we are unique among all world religions in that we believe in a Creator God who has revealed himself to us as One God in three Persons. God as a Community of Love between Father, Son and Spirit. A Love that is so strong that it knows no boundaries in revealing itself to humanity as unconditional and absolute. The contemporary theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar puts it this way:

"The first thing that must strike a non-Christian about a Christian's faith is that it is all too daring. It is too beautiful to be true: The mystery of being, unveiled as absolute love, coming down to wash the feet and the souls of its creatures; a love that assumes the whole burden of our guilt and hate, that accepts the accusations that shower down.. all the scorn and contempt that nails down his incomprehensible movement of self-abasement -- all this absolute love accepts in order to excuse his creature before himself......"

Today, on this Trinity Sunday may our souls be touched by the faith knowledge that the God we worship and believe in is a community of Love: Father Son and Holy Spirit.
