June 22, 2003 – Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

Dear Friends:

The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is certainly a Feast which stands like a Gateway to our summer holidays. This feast reminds us on the basis of our belief in the Eucharist as banquet, sacrifice and token for eternal life: as is so beautiful expressed in the ancient prayer: "O sacred banquet in which Christ is received, the memory of his passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace and a pledge of future glory is given to us" It spells out what Vatican II calls the source and summit of all Christian life.
It reminds us too that there are no holidays from the Sunday Eucharist and we will try although there will be only one priest available in July and August to continue with all four Sunday masses on the weekend in addition to the weddings on Saturday which are copious in July. If it should occur that the priest cannot physically or mentally carry the load we will change whatever is necessary.
My dear parishioners when our Vice-Provincial Fr. Norbert Possmann SAC was here for his official visitation he was full of praise for all the ministries and services this parish provides, but I am afraid that we have to cut down on things which we cannot afford anymore and we have to charge for services which we used to provide for free, unless your contributions increase.
Our parish Assembly on May 25 was an interesting sign. There were few people present but they were committed. We hope and pray that there will be more people who become committed.
Thanks to all who handed in their commitment for ministries already. Next and final call will be in September.
Congratulations to the 43 children who made their First Holy Communion last Sunday.

May God bless you and your families especially this summer.

Fr. Henry
