Youth Ministry

Youth Group

FRIENDLY, FREE, SAFE, FUN, and CHRIST-CENTRED

Junior High Youth Group (Grades 7-9) meets on Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m. Grade Sixes who have received or are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are also welcome to join the Junior Youth Group.

Senior High Youth Group (Grades 10-12) meets on Thursdays from 7-9:00 p.m.

What happens at a typical Youth Group meeting?

We start off first of all by gathering together and welcoming one another. We then formally open the meeting with Scripture and song. Then, we play games, do skits, have a snack, make stuff (usually out of cardboard and construction paper), have discussions, and make the plans for our next service activity. At the end, we close with some short prayers, and we ask Jesus to help us with whatever we need help with at that particular time. If the weather is good, we sometimes also go outside to kick a ball around or play frisbee, etc., and we have also had the occasional video.

Why go to the Youth Group?

  • Fun
  • Friendship
  • Spirituality
  • Service

Children's Liturgy

There are Children's Liturgy programs at both the 9:00 am and at the 11:00 am Mass. No registration is required. All children up to Grade 3 are welcome to join in the fun.

Sacramental Preparation

Registration forms and information pamphlets are available on the table in the entrance area of the Church, together with a box where you can place your completed Registration forms.

First Holy Communion classes are already under way; the schedule is as follows:

  • If you missed the Parent/Student meeting on April 1st, please see Judith McRae after Mass to register and to obtain your home study book. (A donation of $10.00 covers the cost of the book.)
  • Sunday Sessions of Liturgy of the Word for First Holy Communion at the 11:00 am Mass: Sundays April 6th, 13th, and 27th.
  • Retreat Day: Saturday, May 3, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Celebration of First Holy Communion takes place on Sunday May 4th, 2008 at the 11:00 am Mass. A celebration with cake and something to drink will be held directly after the Mass in honour of our First Communicants.

Is there a dress code for the reception of First Holy Communion?

Although traditionally, boys wear white shirts with light suits, and girls wear white or light-coloured dresses to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, at St. Cecilia's we are not enforcing such a strict dress code. It would be very nice, we think, to see the kids dressed up in their very best, and if they have something white that they can wear, then so much the better.

Parents, please make sure that your children's outfits are both suitable and modest, and as far as possible with growing children, please ensure that the clothes fit correctly - especially that shirts, blouses and skirts are not too short.

Please be sure to mark your calendars, and keep these dates clear of conflicting activities.

If you are an adult seeking the Sacraments for yourself, please contact our RCIA facilitator, or make an appointment through the office at 252-2790 to see Father Patrick Furtado.
